The exciting mix of Spanish, Portuguese and French grapes (cabernet sauvignon, carignan, souzao, tinta madeira, tinta amarella and tinta cão, among many others) slurp up the Rutherglen sun and emerge in the glass rounded, spice-fuelled, wild herbal–edged, licorice-enhanced and black fruited with plenty of savoury, earthy intrigue.
